Asa Featherstone IV

Asa (AY-suh) Featherstone, IV is a photo-based artist, curator, and the founder of MIDTONES Photo Magazine based in Cincinnati, OH. His practice prioritizes the beauty within marginalized communities through documentary and conceptual photography. Asa is the founder of MIDTONES Photo Magazine, he curates annual volumes that amplify the voices of photographers of color across the Midwest and Rust Belt. His approach to storytelling is deeply informed by a homeschool upbringing, where observation and curiosity cultivated a lifelong engagement with the subtleties of human behavior and culture. Asa’s photography and curatorial work have been recognized and commissioned by The New York Times, TIME, The Wall Street Journal, Google, and American Airlines among others. He was an Animating Museums Fellow at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver in 2017 and earned recognition in 2020 for one of TIME Magazine’s Top 100 Portraits of the Year. Asa’s blended practice continues to push the boundaries of photography as a tool for community, storytelling, and archiving.
